About Emily

Hello there! My name is Emily Grobe, and I like making things.

Design, to me, is the ultimate expression of how creativity and problem solving are intertwined. I am amazed at the stories that can be told with just a few shapes, and am inspired by the impact those stories can have. My ultimate goal is to use my skills in design to help create a more accessible and equitable world.

Passions:

Accessibility in all forms
Education
LGBTQIA+ rights
Art
(I paint and do printmaking!)
Nature and the Environment
Storytelling
Humanity
– I believe in us.

10+ Years Designing

Even prior to my BFA, I was designing for my high school newspaper and taking graphic design and digital publishing electives. I always have loved how design enables me to creatively reach larger audiences than my art alone.

5 Years
In-House

My time at NIU Outdoor Adventures was spent creating all print and digital marketing materials for the program, and in my last (of four) years I executed a complete rebrand on my own.

At Fargo Skateboarding I did the same – designing posters, social media posts, and assisting in web strategy.

2 Years
Agency

Rule29 taught me the flexibility and efficiency to manage multiple wildly different client projects at once. I got my hands on logos, print pieces, web design, signage, brand guides, and more.

P.S. my file building and management is SO detailed now!

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain.

If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

-Emily Dickinson

This poem by Emily Dickinson has been an inspiration and a guiding light to me for years. It was hanging in my childhood bedroom, and now a robin rests in a tattoo on my arm.

For me this poem is a reminder that small acts of kindness and helpfulness make a difference. The hurt in the world can be overwhelming, but we can always make an impact for those around us. My life is given meaning by my ability to love and be helpful.
