UNMC: Legislative Report

Design: Emily Grobe

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) trains future medical professionals across nearly 50 departments. The Behavioral health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) was created by the Nebraska Legislature in 2009 and housed at the UNMC. It was charged with helping recruit, train and retain behavioral health workers.

Every two years, the BHECN releases a Legislative Report featuring stories and statistics about the program’s progress. The following case study explores the 2022–2023 Report I had the pleasure of designing recently.

Content

In the past, the BHECN Legislative Report was densely packed with walls of text and statistics. They decided that for this report, they wanted to focus more on the storytelling and human aspects of their impact.

For the 2022–2023 report, I crafted dynamic layouts that incorporate the Nebraska pride of BHECN as well as upward, positive energy they hoped to invoke.

Motifs of lines and patterns traveling upward and to the right, as well as layered elements keep the eye engaged and flowing through the articles.

Each article has its own designated color from the UNMC palette so readers can easily find and identify the stories by the color accents as they flip through.
