Hover Camp: Award-Winning Logo

Design: Emily Grobe
Art Direction: Josh Schweiger
Account Lead: Jenn Totten

Hover Camp is a campground in Swan Valley, Idaho known for its scenic fly fishing and rainbow trout. Did you know a group of trout is called a “hover?”

As an outdoorsy person myself, I was so excited to jump in and give this beautiful location the modern, friendly logo it deserves. This logo also ended up winning a Silver MUSE Design Award in 2023!

It All Starts with Sketches

Sometimes a logo doesn’t really come together until the digital comps. Sometimes… it finds you right away.

Here are a few of the directions I explored in the beginning. We know the historic visual language of campgrounds: badges, patches, rugged type. How can it be pushed further? How can we incorporate the important parts of what Hover Camp offers?

Solutions

The client ended up loving the modern look of the HC monogram fish logo, and were excited for the merchandising possibilities of such a recognizable mark. To balance the clean simplicity of the mark, I created a custom logotype with a stencil-like look to refer back to the classic campground feel. I am proud of how this mark is able to combine contradictory ideas to create something new, fun, and different from other campgrounds.

Recognition

In 2023, the Hover Camp logo won a MUSE Silver Design Award as part of the company rebrand, and has been selected for inclusion in LogoLounge’s Book 14 (which is not published yet, but will be here).
